Creatures Real and Imagined

Creatures Real and Imagined explores the ways in which animals and creatures, both real and imagined, have been a presence in visual art as metaphors, objects of fantasy and fear, sources of emotional attachment, and connections to the physical and non-physical realms. Due to the popularity and success of this exhibition in 2016, it is being brought back for another tour, showing the spectrum of ways in which creatures are conjured, immortalized, and depicted in the minds of artists.

Artwork selected for this show will be on display in an eight-week exhibition at uBe Art in the B-Side Hood of Berkeley, California, located 12 miles east of San Francisco. The gallery features a light-filled space with 25-foot ceilings. The jury panel will choose individual pieces based on technical application, originality, and concept. All mediums are welcome, including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, fiber, photography, and digital art. Artwork must be ready to hang; loose prints must be in plastic sleeves. Artwork must not exceed 50 inches on any side.

Entry fee is $25. Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance during shipping; international artists are responsible for all international fees. Artists may deliver and pick up work in person if applicable. All artwork accepted must be listed for sale. uBe Art will retain 40% of all sales. The entry deadline is January 5, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Selected artists will be notified by January 11, 2017. All artwork must be received by January 28, 2017. The exhibition opens February 3, 2017 with an opening reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and closes April 1, 2017.
