About This Call
Creature Comforts is a juried competition at Niza Knoll Gallery. The exhibition runs July 29 - September 4, 2022. Artists are invited to create artwork exploring what makes them comfortable—whether a chair, dinner with friends, a favorite sofa, fireplace, picnic, walk in the park, listening to music, or gardening—and how these things have been part of their lives and how they feel about them. Work can be created in any medium including painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor, pencil, ink), assemblage, collage, print, photograph, pastel, or sculpture (stone, clay, wood, paper maché, bronze), or installation. Work may be real, imaginary, or abstract.
Entry fee is $35. Artists may submit 1-3 images. Eligibility is open to anyone over 18. Art must be original, created within the last 4 years, and not previously shown at the gallery. 2D work must not exceed 48" in width and 72" in height (including frame). 2D artwork must be ready to hang with a secure wire on the back; do not use zigzag, saw tooth, or triangle hangers. Simple black frames are recommended (frames are optional for stretched canvas or board with at least 1.5" border). 3D pedestal work must weigh no more than 30 pounds and stand securely. If 3D work is to be hung, it cannot exceed 30 pounds and must have a secure hanging method. All artwork must be well executed, clean, dry, and ready for display. Accepted artists must provide a short statement about their work and mark the back of each piece with name, title, medium, size, and price.
Accepted work must be delivered to the gallery Sunday, July 24 between 3-5 p.m. or Monday, July 25 between 1-3 p.m. No shipping. Accepted work must remain in the gallery for the entire exhibit and be available for sale. The artist receives 60% of the sale price within 40 days after the exhibit ends. Acceptance notifications will be sent between July 17-19. Jury dates are July 10-16, 2022. For questions, contact Niza Knoll at [email protected].
