About This Call

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission and Los Angeles County Library seek a Creative Strategist Artist-in-Residence to develop and implement a system-wide artist-in-residence (AIR) masterplan for the LA County Library. This year-long residency embeds an artist as a creative strategist and art maker into the library system to work alongside library staff, project partners, community stakeholders and artists in developing, strategizing, promoting and implementing the LA County Library's AIR program.

The Creative Strategist will be embedded in the LA County Library office in West Covina and work with a flexible part-time schedule at community locations throughout LA County. The role involves interpreting communication between county library staff, connecting existing and newly created programs, and developing a comprehensive masterplan for the AIR program through artist-initiated projects, interventions, and community engagement. The Creative Strategist will develop and produce experiences or artworks that engage library patrons of all ages, may work with at-risk populations including Foster Youth, Probation, Homeless, and LGBTQ communities, and will document the process and lessons learned.

Eligibility is open to professional artists who live or work in Los Angeles County. The position includes an all-inclusive budget of $50,000 per year: $40,000 for artist fees and travel/mileage/parking, and $10,000 for community-specific engagement, activities and art making. Selection criteria include artistic merit and professional qualifications, experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, ability to communicate effectively and synthesize complex concepts, a broad range of creative skills applicable to program development, and knowledge of LA County Library services. Up to five artists will be selected for interviews and required to develop a short presentation for a committee of county staff, project partners, community stakeholders and local residents.
