About This Call
Creative Pinellas seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create original public art that serves as a community-building project with a focus on interactivity and active engagement. The artwork will be transported to and installed at various locations around Pinellas County over a minimum of two years.
Eligibility: This project is open to artists who have been residents of Pinellas County, Florida, for at least one year and aged 18 years and older. Artists in all disciplines and stages of their careers are encouraged to apply. Artist groups and collectives may apply, with lead artists and team member roles defined. Applicants will be evaluated on their history of public art commissions, letters of reference, and demonstration of past projects of commensurate size and scope. Artists with experience in community interaction are encouraged to apply.
Budget: $325,000 all inclusive of design, materials, fabrication, engineering, artist fees, consultants' and subcontractors' fees, insurance, delivery and removal from multiple installation sites, installation, permitting, maintenance, and documentation. Artists will be paid in no less than four and up to six phased payments. The selected artist will be required to enter into a professional services agreement with Creative Pinellas. Finalists will receive a $3,000 honorarium.
Project Details: The artwork must be interactive and reflect the communities where it will be installed. Artists must be willing to research and engage with host communities through meetings, interviews, or participation activities. The work should be accessible with no barriers to physical participation and foster shared experiences. All artwork locations are exterior sites in Pinellas County, including Oldsmar Public Library, Clearwater East Public Library, Largo Central Park Performing Arts Center, Pier 60 Park, Josiah Cephus Weaver Park, Pinellas Hope, and War Veterans Memorial Park. Materials should be low maintenance, safe for children and adults, mindful of ADA accessibility, and minimally invasive to display sites.
Submission Requirements: Submit 6-10 images and up to 3 videos (6-13 total samples). Application Deadline: August 17, 2018, 11:59:59 EDT. Contact Jessica McCormick at 727-582-2228 or [email protected] for assistance.
