About This Call

Creative Capitol celebrates Colorado artists and images of the state of Colorado. The Colorado Council on the Arts (CCA) and Denver International Airport (DIA) announce a call for artists to participate in a four-part rotating series of exhibitions featuring artists from different regions of Colorado. This third exhibition highlights artists from Eastern Colorado and seeks two-dimensional creative interpretations of Colorado environments and culture.

Selected artworks will be displayed at Denver International Airport from March through June 2010, then travel to the State Capitol for exhibition in the Lieutenant Governor's Office and the basement of the rotunda from July through October 2010. The exhibition is open to Colorado artists who are residents of the following counties: Baca, Bent, Cheyenne, Crowley, El Paso, Elbert, Kiowa, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Otero, Phillips, Prowers, Sedgwick, Washington, Weld, and Yuma.

Only two-dimensional artworks will be considered. Artwork dimensions must measure larger than 20" x 20" and not exceed 48" x 68" x 2½" (outside frame dimensions), with framed artwork not exceeding 50 pounds. Each artist may submit up to two artworks as high-quality digital images through the CaFÉ online application system. There is no application fee. All artwork must be suitably presented and wired for hanging using "D" ring hardware or wire; French Cleat systems are not compatible with DIA's and CCA's exhibit cable hanging system. Selected applicants will be notified the week of January 4, 2010. All artwork accepted into the exhibition will be insured while in DIA's and CCA's possession. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to DIA and return shipping after the exhibition. Artists may sell their own work during the exhibit but no work will be removed until the exhibition concludes. CCA and DIA do not take commission on sales and will not act as intermediaries for sales transactions.
