Create Award Residency 2023

Art Gym's Create Award residency supports recently graduated artists in establishing their professional artistic practices. Selected residents receive a 6-month membership to Art Gym with access to equipment and tools, a materials stipend, and participation in a community of artists. Residents are expected to spend 12-15 hours per week creating work at Art Gym and will engage in peer-to-peer mentoring and professional critiques. The residency culminates in a celebratory exhibition and/or performance in Art Gym's professional gallery space or performance studio.

Eligibility is open to artists who graduated in 2021 or later in a Fine Arts or Performing Arts program. Applicants must submit a 500-1000 word proposal outlining general goals and intended direction for the culminating exhibition/performance, including 3-5 visual examples or video and a rough timeline of milestones. A letter of recommendation from a faculty member and references are required. Letters of reference should be sent to [email protected].

Important dates: Submission deadline is June 16, 2023. Interviews will be held June 26-30, 2023. Residents will be announced July 7, 2023. The residency runs from mid-July to mid-January, with the exhibition/performance at the end of January. Work samples should include 3-5 total samples (images and/or video combined).
