About This Call
The Denver Arts & Venues Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create an original three-dimensional work of art for Cranmer Park, located at 4501 E 1st Avenue in Denver's Hilltop neighborhood, east of Colorado Boulevard between East 1st and 3rd Avenues. This commission is open to artists or artist teams residing in the state of Colorado. The budget is approximately $75,000 USD.
The selection panel seeks a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork appropriate for Cranmer Park that speaks to the immediate community and the history of the area, potentially engaging with the legacy of George Cranmer. The artwork should demonstrate experience integrating into the built environment and surrounding landscape. Potential locations for the artwork are the side terraces of the plaza and the flower bed at the 3rd Avenue entrance. No artwork on the sundial plaza shall be considered, and the artwork must not obstruct the mountain view. Specific locations for proposed artworks will be determined at semifinalists' site visit. The selection panel is open to artworks made from a variety of suitable materials, and artists working in any media are eligible to apply. Emerging artists are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must submit six digital images, a résumé, and a statement of interest no longer than 2,000 characters via www.callforentry.org. The selection panel will choose up to five semifinalists for interviews. If a formal proposal is requested, artists will receive a $500 honorarium to prepare and present the proposal in person. All applicants are expected to consider long-term conservation and maintenance, as public art projects are exposed to weather, physical stresses, and potential vandalism. Selected artist proposals will be reviewed by the City of Denver's Public Art Committee and other city agencies to ensure conformity with city standards of maintenance, durability, and ADA standards. The final contract amount is inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, permits, and any other project-related costs.
