About This Call
Craft Alliance, located in The Maker District of St. Louis, is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Established in 1964, Craft Alliance has grown from a newsletter to include comprehensive education programs, community and artist programming, and an exhibition schedule featuring local and national artists. The organization remains committed to inspiring the community through contemporary craft.
This Fall exhibition celebrates the transformative nature of craft—techniques and materials that have held true for centuries and the makers who continuously challenge and expand the field. Craft Alliance invites submissions from artists engaging with craft including basketry, print and book arts, ceramics, fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, paper, wearable art, and wood. The jury includes Doug Dale (Assistant Director, Duane Reed Gallery), Hattie Felton (Director of Curatorial Affairs and Curator of Fine and Decorative Arts, Missouri History Museum), Andrea Moon (Lecturer in Ceramics, Washington University), and Gavin Piesomboon (Studio Director, Third Degree Glass).
Submissions require high resolution images of 3 pieces (9 total images can be submitted for detail and alternate views), a PDF containing bio, CV, and artist statement, and a $30 entry fee ($10 for each additional piece). Artists working in craft media such as glass, wood, clay, fiber, paper, and metal are eligible. Artwork should be approximately 48"x48" and 100 lbs or smaller. Full time staff members of Craft Alliance or current board members are ineligible. Exhibition dates are August 30 - November 8, 2024. Applicants will be notified by July 15, 2024. Work must be delivered by August 14, 2024. Local artists can drop off work August 12-16, 2024 during business hours from 10am-6pm. All submitted work should be available for sale; Craft Alliance takes a 50% commission on sales. Craft Alliance will pay for return shipping of unsold artwork, which will be shipped back by November 29, 2024.
