About This Call
Howard County is seeking a professional artist or artist team to create a sculpture for the Howard County Covid-19 Memorial. The memorial honors front-line and emergency personnel who assisted the community during the COVID-19 pandemic and remembers those lost to COVID-19. The sculpture will be set within a grove of trees, accompanied by a seating area with a reflecting water fountain designed to provide a bright and vibrant, yet quiet and serene location for reflection and remembrance.
The sculpture project budget is $100,000, inclusive of all costs including artist fee and expenses, fabrication, materials, transportation, installation, permits, licenses, insurance, and site modification. Any expenses exceeding the contracted amount are the artist's responsibility. The artist must submit an artwork maintenance manual upon completion and engage the community in a public forum to introduce the artwork to the public.
All professional artists or artist teams in the United States may apply. Artists must meet at least two of the following eligibility criteria: completed public art commissions, received awards/grants/fellowships, or had work exhibited in museums or galleries. Staff or employees of Howard County Government are not eligible. Applications must include an application form, statement of interest, eligibility statement, resume or CV, three professional references, photographs of at least three previous sculpture works, concept sketches or digital renderings showing at least two different views, and a written description explaining the sculpture concept, materials, durability, and maintenance requirements. Applicants must submit a minimum of 3 and maximum of 20 work sample images.
