County of Santa Clara: Valley Health Center - Palo Alto Public Art Installation

The County of Santa Clara invites local art galleries and non-profit arts organizations to submit up to twenty (20) original 2-dimensional artworks for a permanent installation at Valley Health Clinic in Palo Alto. Up to 40 artworks total will be selected for display in the clinic's public-facing areas, including waiting rooms, corridors, and exam rooms. Artwork must be new or previously created originals; reproductions will not be considered. Both portrait and landscape orientations are accepted.

Artists whose work may be appropriate include painters, muralists, graphic artists, and photographers. Themes may include healthcare and wellness, healing environments, supporting physical and emotional recovery, reducing stress, and relating to local history and diversity. Artwork should be relevant to a general audience, including children. Selection will be guided by aesthetic integrity and alignment with the opportunity's goals of supporting the local arts community while reflecting the community and local environment.

Selected proposers will be awarded up to $2,500 per artwork, with a suggested 60-40 split with the original artist (60% to artist). Maximum compensation per proposer is $50,000. Artwork must be professionally mounted with archival materials and shatter-proof Plexiglas. Artists retain all copyrights but must waive rights under the Visual Artists Rights Act (VARA) and California Art Preservation Act (CAPA). The County retains rights to reproduce artwork for non-commercial purposes, relocate it, and loan it as deemed appropriate. Payment is made upon delivery of ready-to-hang artwork. Submission deadline is April 28, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT via CAFÉ. Eligibility is limited to galleries and non-profit arts organizations located within Santa Clara County, California.
