About This Call
The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) is inviting Ohio and national artists to submit images of past work to select semi-finalists to make proposals for an outdoor sculpture at their new Paratransit Facility. This is the initial selection phase; no proposals will be considered at this time. The COTA Paratransit Art Committee, comprised of COTA staff, arts professionals, and community members, will review submitted digital images and resumes to select semi-finalists.
The sculpture will be installed outside the client entrance to the Eligibility Assessment Center. The area reserved for the sculpture is 5'-0" x 5'-0" with a height limit of 10'-0". The final commissioned outdoor sculpture should be permanent and durable, inviting, show sensitivity to diverse populations including persons with disabilities, convey the mission of COTA, have unique character, and withstand the test of time. The sculpture shall not include powered features or assistance (electric, water, etc.). Artists working in all media are encouraged to submit. Fabrication and installation of the sculpture, including supporting foundation/base, is the responsibility of the artist.
Commission amount: $85,000. Entry deadline: 5:00 p.m. EST, March 31, 2011. Selection criteria include professional qualifications, proven ability to undertake similar projects, artistic merit, impact on mass transit customers, connection to site and/or adjacent community, appropriateness for site including safety and scale, durability of materials, resistance to vandalism, and maintenance requirements. Contact: Bishop Carter via email [email protected].
