COTA Paratransit Facility Mural

COTA is seeking an artist to create a floor-to-ceiling mural for the Mobility Assessment Facility, a component of the new Paratransit Bus Storage and Maintenance Facility slated for completion in late 2010. The mural will portray a downtown Columbus scene to help simulate the real-world environment applicants will experience when using public transportation.

The mural should cover 70 linear feet of wall, 12 feet high, with a ninety-degree turn at the 18th linear feet. The proposed artwork imagery may include Columbus cityscapes, diverse populations including persons with disabilities, historical references to mass transit, and the COTA logo. Trademarked images should be avoided. The selected work of art should be digital or will need to be converted to a digital file at 120 ppi CMYK. The mural will be digitally printed on canvas.

Artists working in all media are encouraged to submit. Applicants should submit 6 images total: 3 images of their proposal and 3 images of past work, along with a resume. A selection panel will evaluate proposals based on professional qualifications, proven ability to undertake similar projects, artistic merit, impact on mass transit customers, connection to site and community, appropriateness for site, durability of materials, resistance to vandalism, and maintenance requirements. The selected artist will work with an outside vendor provided by COTA to fabricate and install the final piece. Project budget is $30,000 ($10,000 for the artist and $20,000 for fabrication and installation). Installation is scheduled for November 2010, with building and artwork dedication in December 2010.
