About This Call

Corrientes Culturales (Cultural Currents) is a collaborative initiative between the City of Eugene, the Lane Arts Council, and community partners to strengthen cultural centers, programming, and multicultural experiences in Eugene. The 2023 project will feature temporary artistic installations discovered during the Visual Arts Week from October 6-14, 2023, with installations taking place in late September.

The opportunity includes five categories of public art: outdoor sculptures (2 artists, $2,000 each plus equipment costs); visual art poster series (1 artist, $1,500 plus printing costs); indoor 2D artwork (1 artist, $1,000); spoken word, music, and sound art (3 artists, $1,500 each); and projections with optional audio (2 artists, $1,500 each). Artists may apply to any combination of categories, submitting a separate application for each. Work samples may include up to 10 images, 4 audio files, 4 video files, for a maximum of 18 total samples.

Corrientes Culturales is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant to support access to public art and create pathways for artists entering the public art field. The initiative prioritizes art and storytelling that promote historically excluded, misrepresented, and marginalized narratives and identities in Eugene. The advisory committee will select finalists and evaluate submissions based on written, audio, or video responses and materials. Preferred themes include connections to place and land from indigenous times to present, while suggested themes include belonging, healing, community stories, and challenging dominant narratives. Entry deadline: April 20, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Contact: [email protected].
