About This Call
Corrientes Culturales is a collaborative and ongoing public art initiative to strengthen multicultural centers, programming, and experiences in Eugene, both downtown and at the Riverfront Park. Launched in 2023 with funding from The National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant, the initiative establishes pathways for artists interested in entering the public art field while creating community access to the arts. This year's projects will take place during Visual Arts Week, September 27 - October 6, 2024.
The initiative invites artists, artist collectives, and arts organizations to create temporary public art installations using arts and storytelling to promote representation and narratives that have been historically excluded, misrepresented, and/or marginalized in Eugene. Artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Latinx, LGBTQIA+, and those with intersectional identities are strongly encouraged to apply. Three categories are available: outdoor sculptures (2 artists selected, $2,000 each, 1-year installation at Hult Center entrances); 2D indoor art (1 artist selected, $1,500, 1-year installation at Farmers Market pavilion wall); and projection art (2 artists selected, $1,500 each, 1-week installation at Farmers Market pavilion and SubSupra pavilion at Riverfront Park). Artists may apply to any combination of categories and submit up to 3 applications. Work sample requirements: 10-24 total samples maximum, including up to 16 images, 4 audio files, and 4 video files.
Eligibility is limited to local artists in Oregon. Entry deadline: May 20, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Informational sessions are offered May 1 (4:30-6:30 p.m.) and May 13 (12:30-2:30 p.m.) at Atrium Building, 99 W. 10th Ave., Suite 117, with online attendance options available. A recording will be available after May 3. For assistance with application materials, contact Claire Schechtman at [email protected].
