About This Call
Ogden City's Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or artist team to design and create public art for the Corner Plaza Redesign Project at the corner of Washington and 25th Street in downtown Ogden. The selected artist or artist team will collaborate with The Corner Plaza Design team and Ogden City Arts to explore public art opportunities that will be placed on the site or integrated into the plaza design.
The Corner Plaza is a focal point of downtown Ogden with over 70,000 cars and high foot traffic daily. The plaza remodeling project will create a creative and vibrant location for meetups, information gathering, small performances, and more. The selection committee seeks to commission one site-specific artwork that is timeless and forward-thinking. Artists are welcome to propose abstract work or work incorporating components relevant to the diversity of the Ogden community and history. The committee is seeking work that is not in the bronze traditional and figurative aesthetic. The plaza location provides opportunities for various art contributions including ground and concrete-based work, sound, light, projection, text, interactive, technology-based, or sculptural works. All proposed work should consider long-term conservation and maintenance, using highly durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for outdoor environment and long-term display.
The budget for this commission is $130,000, inclusive of all costs including artist's design fee, consultation fees, structural and electrical engineering documents, insurance, tools, materials, fabrication, transportation, permits, installation, site modifications, travel, per diem, project documentation, and contingency. Eligibility: US citizen or legal resident artists/artist teams. Utah artists are strongly encouraged to apply. Employees of Ogden City are not eligible. Applicants must submit a letter of interest (no more than 700 words), CV/resume (no more than two pages), up to three professional references, and up to ten images of previous site-specific public work through CaFE at www.callforentry.org. Submission deadline: August 31, 2020 by midnight MDT. Up to three finalists will be selected to share preliminary concepts and receive an honorarium (applied toward the commission amount if selected). One artist or artist team will be selected for the final commission. Schedule: Finalists notified September 21, 2020; Finalists presentation October 26, 2020; Artist selection and notification November 6, 2020; Artwork installation starting Fall 2021/Spring 2022; Official unveiling Late Spring 2022. Contact: Lorie Buckley at 801-629-8718 or [email protected].
