About This Call
Core New Art Space invites all artists working in any medium to express what the color red means to them. The exhibition explores red's historical significance in art, from the 16,000-year-old bison paintings in Spain's Cave of Altamira to its contemporary use across cultures as a symbol of power, seduction, warning, celebration, and emotion.
Entries must be submitted electronically by October 10, 2019, with a $35.00 entry fee for up to 3 works. Accepted artists will be notified on October 17, 2019. Work must arrive at the gallery by November 9, 2019 (or by 5pm on November 10, 2019 for local drop-off). The exhibition runs November 15 – December 1, 2019, with an artist reception on Friday, November 15, 6-9pm. Work must be no larger than 48 inches on its longest side, including frame. Judging criteria include overall impact, content, composition, mastery of technique, creativity, and craftsmanship.
All work must be completely dry. Wall and suspended art must have suitable hanging means (no sawtooth hangers). Standing art must be stable. Core New Art Space charges a 30% commission plus tax on sold work, with payment rebated to the artist within 45 days of the show's close. Artists are responsible for shipping costs and insurance. Work must be picked up by 5pm on December 1, 2019; unclaimed work after 30 days will be considered gallery property. The juror is Michael Paglia, an art historian and professional art writer published in Art News, Architecture, Sculpture Magazine, and other national periodicals.
