About This Call
Core New Art Space invites artists to submit work exploring the color blue for the "Blue Show" exhibition. Blue elicits emotions from serenity to authority and denotes loyalty, cleanliness, and understanding. It has also evolved as a symbol of depression in American society. The color appears throughout human experience—in our language, decoration, modern business logos, historical illuminated manuscripts, flags across the globe, and as the namesake of Earth as the "pale dot" in the cosmos. Artists are invited to explore what the color blue means to them.
Submissions must include 1-3 images (for 3-D work, up to 2 shots per piece). Work will be judged by artist Tania Dibbs on overall impact, content, composition, mastery of technique, creativity, and craftsmanship. All media must be listed with submissions. The entry fee is $35. Art must be completely dry and arrive at CORE by May 6, 2017. The exhibition runs May 11-28, 2017, with an artist reception on May 12 from 6-9 p.m. Notification of acceptance will be sent April 24.
Wall and suspended art must have suitable hanging means (no sawtooth hangers). Standing art must be stable. Multiple pieces and installation art require a set-up diagram. All work must remain in place for the duration of the show. CORE charges a 30% commission plus tax on sold work, with payment rebated to the artist within 45 days of the show's close. Artists are responsible for shipping their work and for their own insurance. Work not picked up by 5 p.m. on May 28, 2017 must be retrieved by the artist; after 30 days, unclaimed work will be considered property of the gallery.
