About This Call

Coral Springs Re-imagined: the Art of Data is a collaborative public art exhibition from the City of Coral Springs Office of Budget and Strategy that invites artists to interpret city data through their own artistic medium. The exhibit explores what happens when common statistics are transformed into visual representations. The project aims to promote discussion, civic dialogue, and public engagement; generate new partnerships between artists, artwork, and the community; and celebrate the arts and talent within Coral Springs.

Artists are asked to submit a conceptual proposal based on provided datasets, which include: number of trees planted, kilowatt usage, tonnage of litter removed, particulate matter pollution rates, property taxing authorities breakdown, GIS map of FY 2022 projects, Alert Coral Springs enrollment, charter school graduation rates, traffic crashes, and CERT force members. All mediums are welcome, including paintings, drawings, textiles, digital data visualizations, and sculpture. Three-dimensional and installation artwork may be submitted with space limitations. Digital mediums must be fully self-sufficient with necessary display equipment included. Artwork dimensions: maximum 32" (W) x 40" (H) for flat work; 96" (H) x 45" (W) x 40" (D) for sculptures or free-standing pieces. Artwork must be original, in ready-to-hang format, and submitted with a letter of interest, resume, three images of past work, and an image of the proposed artwork.

Up to eight artists will be selected to receive $250 in funding for supplies. The city will retain ownership of commissioned works during the exhibition period (May 1–May 31, 2023). Selected artists are responsible for design development, fabrication, installation, and removal of artwork. Artist submission deadline: November 30, 2022. Artist selection: December 14, 2022. Artwork installation: April 26, 2023. Artwork removal: June 2, 2023. Eligibility: Professional artists at least 18 years old living or working in Broward, Miami-Dade, or Palm Beach counties. No application fee required.
