About This Call
Andy Brown Art Splash is open to artists 18 years of age or older from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Louisiana, and Mississippi. The Coppell Arts Council will award a stipend to up to 10 professional sculptures that are appropriate for public viewing and support the family and community-oriented values of Coppell. Sculptures are owned by the artist and loaned to the exhibit for a two-year period. All sculptures must be safe for a public setting and made of materials that can withstand harsh Texas weather without requiring maintenance. The honorarium is $1,800. Large, monumental sculptures are encouraged.
Artists must provide all fasteners and hardware to attach artwork to concrete pads. The City of Coppell will provide a lift and additional labor to help place the sculpture and install fasteners. Any installation equipment required beyond a forklift must be supplied by the artist. Artists may list work as for sale during the exhibition, with the Coppell Arts Council receiving a 20% commission on any sales. Sculpture pads are 8 inches thick concrete, 4 feet by 4 feet square. All installations must be anchored to pads meeting these requirements.
Artists are responsible for delivering work to the site during the installation period of August 1, 2024 through September 15, 2024, and must pick up artwork during the same timeframe in 2025. Early pick-up is not permitted unless a sculpture is sold. During the exhibition period, artwork will be covered by the City of Coppell's insurance policy. The artist is responsible for the work prior to installation and after removal. Submissions are evaluated on artistic merit, public safety, appropriateness, durability outdoors, and creativity. Artists working in mixed media, stone, brass, and metal are encouraged to apply, as are those working in abstract and figurative styles. The Coppell Arts Council will host an evening art stroll on October 12, 2024, with all participating artists encouraged to attend and provided two VIP tickets. Artists will also be asked to participate in interviews for a public art app produced by Ottocast. Each artist can submit up to 3 pieces of work for consideration, with one image per submission required. Include information regarding dimensions, cost, and materials in the image portfolio.
