About This Call
The Coppell Arts Council invites artists from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Louisiana, and Mississippi (18 years or older) to submit sculptures for a two-year public art exhibition. The council will award stipends to up to 10 professional sculptures that are appropriate for public viewing and support the family and community-oriented values of Coppell. Sculptures are owned by the artist and loaned to the exhibit for the two-year period. The honorarium is $1,800, with an additional $500 awarded to the People's Choice winner.
All sculptures must be safe for public settings and made of materials that can withstand harsh Texas weather without requiring maintenance. Large, monumental sculptures are encouraged. Sculpture pads are 8" thick concrete, 4' x 4' square (with the possibility of 1-2 sculptures requiring up to 8' x 8' pads at CAC's discretion). Artists must provide all fasteners and hardware to attach artwork to concrete pads; the City of Coppell will provide a lift and labor for installation. Any installation equipment beyond a forklift must be supplied by the artist. Artists may list work as for sale during exhibition, with CAC receiving a 20% commission on sales. During exhibition, artwork is covered by the City of Coppell's insurance policy; artists are responsible for works before and after installation.
Artists must deliver selected sculptures during the installation period of June 15 - July 15, 2022, and pick up work June 15 - July 15, 2024. Early pickup is not permitted unless a sculpture is sold. Submissions are evaluated on artistic merit, public safety, appropriateness, durability, and creativity. Artists working in mixed media, stone, brass, and metal are encouraged to apply. The Coppell Arts Council will host an evening art stroll on October 15, 2022, with participating artists receiving two VIP tickets.
