About This Call

Andy Brown Art Splash is open to artists from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Louisiana, and Mississippi who are 18 years of age or older. The Coppell Arts Council will award a stipend to up to 10 professional sculptures that are appropriate for public viewing and support the family and community-oriented values of Coppell. Sculptures are owned by the artist and loaned to the exhibit for a two-year period. All sculptures must be safe for a public setting and made of materials that can withstand harsh Texas weather without requiring maintenance. The honorarium is $1,500, with an additional $500 awarded to the People's Choice. Large, monumental sculptures are encouraged given the scale and openness of the park.

Artists must provide all fasteners and hardware to attach artwork to concrete pads. The City of Coppell will provide a lift and labor to help place the sculpture and install fasteners. Any installation equipment beyond a forklift must be supplied by the artist. Artists may list work as for sale during exhibition, with the Coppell Arts Council receiving a 20% commission on any sales. Delivery must occur during April 1-15, 2018, with pickup required April 1-15, 2020. Early pickup is not permitted unless a sculpture is sold, in which case the artist may replace it with another sculpture approved by the Coppell Arts Council.

During exhibition, artwork is covered by the City of Coppell's insurance policy. The artist is responsible for the work prior to installation and after removal. Sculpture pads are 8 inches thick concrete, 4' x 4' square, with up to 1-2 sculptures potentially selected for 8' x 8' pads at CAC's discretion. The submitted sculpture must match any concept submitted to the jury. Submissions are evaluated on artistic merit, public safety, appropriateness, durability outdoors, and creativity. Artists working in mixed media, stone, brass, and metal are encouraged to apply. Each artist can submit up to 3 pieces for consideration. The Coppell Arts Council will host an evening art stroll in mid-April, with all participating artists encouraged to attend and provided two VIP tickets.
