Contrive: A National Exhibition of Photo Manipulation & Surreal Photography

Contrive is a national juried exhibition featuring surreal photography and photo manipulation. The exhibition is open to all photography that involves transforming or altering a photograph using either digital or physical methods, such as long or double exposures, compositing, or digital software, as well as photography that is surreal in content. This exhibition is open to all artists living in the United States and will be juried by Amanda Bradley and curated by d'Art Center Staff.

The exhibition runs from Saturday, September 14th through Tuesday, October 8th, 2019, with a reception on Thursday, September 19th from 5:30-7:30pm. Artists may submit up to 3 artworks for a $35.00 entry fee. Work must have been produced within the last three years and cannot exceed 48 inches in its longest dimension or weigh more than 40 pounds. All works must be equipped with hanging hardware and be presentation/display quality and hang ready. Accepted works must arrive by Friday, September 6th, 2019. Artists will be notified by email by 5pm on Friday, August 23rd, 2019.

Awards include 1st Place: $500.00, 2nd Place: $300.00, and 3rd Place: $150.00. The d'Art Center is a public non-profit art center located in the NEON district of Norfolk. The artist is responsible for all shipping costs. Works must include pre-paid return labels through FedEx or UPS. The d'Art Center is not responsible for any damage that may occur during exhibition and artists are strongly recommended to insure their works. Commission for sold works is 60% (artist)/40% (d'Art Center), not including awards.
