Contemporary Portraits: A National Juried Exhibition

LHUCA, The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts invites submissions for Contemporary Portraits: A National Juried Exhibition. The exhibition seeks artworks that broaden the definition of portraiture and its relevance in contemporary art. Portraits can offer a conceptual interpretation of the theme through a diverse range of media and creative possibilities.

Eligibility and Requirements: Artists must be at least 18 years of age and living in the United States. All works must hang on the wall and be created in painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, collage, photography, digital art, ceramics, books, textiles, or wall sculptures. Maximum size is 24" x 36". For shipped works, only plexiglass glazing on framed pieces will be accepted; hand-delivered pieces may have glass. Entry fee is $25.00, and artists are responsible for shipping costs and prepaid return shipping.

Deadlines and Awards: Entry deadline is November 5, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. CST. Artists will be notified by November 10, 2023 via email through CaFÉ. Delivery deadline is November 25, 2023. The exhibition runs December 1, 2023 through January 27, 2024, with opening receptions on December 1, 2023 and January 5, 2024 during the First Friday Art Trail from 6–9 p.m. Return shipping begins the week of February 5, 2024. Cash prizes include 1st place: $300, 2nd place: $200, 3rd place: $100, and one Honorable Mention: $50. Submit work through CaFÉ with one image (1-2 images maximum).
