About This Call
This juried exhibition seeks exceptional contemporary goldsmithing and metalwork created after 2011 that has not been previously published. Submissions should demonstrate originality, creativity, and technical excellence in craftsmanship. The jurors are looking for work that balances artistic and technical innovation, showing cleverness in metalworking, use of color, mechanical functionality, and incorporation of non-metallic elements such as stones. Work made from all types of metals is acceptable, with metal as the predominant material. Pieces should touch the heart, stimulate the intellect, and evoke strong positive reactions.
Applicants must submit 3-5 images of tangible pieces (jewelry and art objects only; no CAD renderings) along with a 50-100 word artist statement and one-page resume. Entry fee is $25 for SNAG members and $35 for non-members. Submissions are accepted from artists worldwide and must be submitted electronically through CaFÉ by May 31, 2014 at 11:59:59 pm Mountain Time. Images must be labeled with title, material, dimensions, and year of completion, and should be minimally edited photographs.
Selected artists will be notified June 15, with high-resolution images due July 29. The virtual exhibition opens October 4. A catalog of images and selected artist texts will be available for purchase through Blurb.com. Jurors include George Sawyer (master of gold Mokume), Judith Kinghorn (recipient of multiple juried awards), and Tom Herman (hand-carved jewelry artist).
