Contemporary Figure 2019: Biennial Two-Dimensional Contemporary Exhibition

The Art Center welcomes submissions for the Biennial National Contemporary Exhibition, open to all two-dimensional artworks that place an emphasis on figure as the primary subject matter. All two-dimensional mediums are welcome, including painting, photography, collage, digital, and others. The juror for this year is Ron Hicks, a master figure painter and former exhibitor at The Art Center.

Entry fee is $25.00, with an additional $5.00 media fee for each image beyond the first. Submissions must include 1-3 images. The deadline for submissions is February 8, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Artists will be notified of acceptance on March 15. Shipped artwork must arrive between April 15-22. Hand-delivered artwork can be dropped off on May 6 from 10am-2pm. The exhibition opens May 13, with a reception on June 7 from 6:30-9pm. Hand-delivered artwork can be picked up on June 25 from 9am-4pm, and return shipping begins June 26.

Cash awards include $750 for Best of Show, $450 for First Place, $300 for Second Place, and $250 for Third Place. Ron Hicks lives and operates his studio in Denver, Colorado. He attended Columbus College of Art and Design and the Colorado Institute of Art, Denver, where he received a degree in advertising. His work combines representation and impressionism, featuring figures in moments of intimacy rendered with free, intentional strokes and layers of crisp color married with muted grey tones.
