About This Call

Complexity 2016 is an international juried exhibition sponsored by Complex Weavers, featuring works that employ complex weave structures. The exhibition takes place June 9–30, 2016 at Fine Line Creative Arts Center, 37W570 Bolcum Rd, St Charles, IL 60175.

Complex weaving is defined by the cloth produced and the mind it took to create it, not by the equipment used. Works must be designed and executed by the entrant with no requirement for minimum shafts or Jacquard looms. Works with historic inspiration and interpretations are welcome. Each artist may submit up to three original works completed after July 2014, not exceeding 25 lbs including hanging and display hardware. Works must not have been previously published in printed publications.

The exhibition is open to Complex Weavers members and students at accredited colleges and universities. Non-member artists may submit entries after joining Complex Weavers online. Students must provide proof of full-time current registration and are not required to be members. Works may be submitted in four categories: Apparel and Accessories; Yardage (18"–36" width, 60"–96" length with hemmed raw edges); 2-Dimensional Art and Home Furnishings (48" x 48" maximum); and 3-Dimensional Art and Home Furnishings (12" x 24" x 12" maximum).

Entry fees are $20.00 per work for members and $15.00 for students, with an additional $20.00 media fee for extra images. Awards include Best of Show ($300), First ($200), Second ($150), Third ($100), a $300 special award for excellent student work, and the CW Award. Jurors will evaluate entries on originality, weave structure, technical excellence, aesthetics, and integration of design elements. Accepted works must remain for the duration of the exhibit, which may travel to additional venues. Artists are responsible for shipping and insurance to and from St Charles. Fine Line receives a 30% commission on sales. Juror decisions will be sent April 8, 2016, with works due by June 7, 2016.
