About This Call
The City of Pompano Beach will commission an artist or artist team for a work for hire project to design and install a significant sculpture at Pompano Beach Community Park, located at the southeast end along Federal Highway at 1660 NE 10th Street, Pompano Beach, FL 33060.
The commissioned artwork must be a sculpture of significant size, horizontal in position, and visible from Federal Highway. Up lighting is required. Theme ideas include whimsical, surreal, or symbolic of movement. Kinetic sculptures are not eligible. The artwork concrete slab must not exceed 30 feet long by 16 feet wide. The selected artist will be responsible for up lighting and pad/foundation. The purchase budget for the project is $150,000.00, which includes all insurance, taxes, fees, permits, delivery, lighting, concrete base/pad installation, engineering, and artwork installation.
Applications must be submitted through CAFÉ and include a resume, artist statement explaining the proposed design, and examples of past work equal to or of similar value to the project. A proposed design sketch is optional. The Public Art Committee will shortlist the top three applicants, who will each receive $1,000.00 and be required to submit a complete proposal with detailed, scaled design in CAD or similar format, including engineering specs and budget. The City may request up to three revisions from the final artist's design. The project is open to all professional artists nationwide with experience in similar projects. Artists are not eligible if they are immediate family or business partners of members of the Public Art Committee or program staff.
