About This Call

This public art project invites artists to create an indoor mural and outdoor vinyl panels for Eureka Park Recreation Center in Northwest Roanoke. The indoor mural will be painted directly on designated interior walls spanning three walls—one in the front lobby area and two wrapping a corner of the community multi-purpose room. The rooms can have distinct designs or a single design bridging both spaces, with a unified color palette. The indoor mural is intended as a permanent installation.

Four digitally rendered designs will be printed on stretched, anchored vinyl panels (approximately 14' W x 18'H each) for exterior installation. These panels should complement the indoor mural, extending its themes and palette into the public-facing outdoor space. The outdoor panels are intended for a 3-5 year installation, with future calls rotating in new pieces. Together, these works should reflect the strength of the Melrose-Rugby neighborhood, honor the legacy of Eureka Park, and serve as a vibrant reminder of community pride.

Artwork should reflect the vibrancy of Northwest Roanoke, honor the history of the neighborhood and Eureka Park, celebrate community unity and cultural diversity, inspire collaboration and pride among residents, and highlight nature, resilience, and environmental justice. The artist must furnish all equipment, materials, labor, and services for design, fabrication, and installation of the indoor mural and preparation of outdoor panel files for print. The artist must maintain liability insurance, ensure durability and weather-resistance, complete all work by April 30, 2026, and actively engage the community through at least three interactive activities such as listening sessions, community art workshops, paint days, or artist talks. A $25,000 budget is available. Entry deadline: 11/14/25 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Jury dates: 11/15/25 - 12/10/25. National eligibility.
