About This Call
The City of Commerce City and the Commerce City Cultural Council seek to commission public art for a new recreation center located at 112th Avenue and Potomac Street. The center will be approximately 103,800 square feet and include a community room, enhanced lobby, green rooftop/balcony, indoor pool, gymnasium with walking/jogging track, weights/fitness area, and dance/aerobics studio.
Three sites have been identified for site-specific artwork: a 75-feet-long wall on the north side of the building; an indoor ceiling-hung sculpture; and two to three 50-feet-diameter roundabouts for sculpture at the entrance and along the Recreation Corridor. The total public art budget is $300,000, allocated as follows: north side wall ($100,000), indoor ceiling-hung sculpture ($45,000), and outdoor roundabout sculptures ($155,000). Budgets are inclusive of all costs including artist design fee, structural engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, site modifications, travel, per diem, project documentation, and contingency expenses.
Eligibility: Applicants must be legal U.S. residents residing full-time in Colorado or neighboring states (New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah, Nebraska, Kansas, Arizona). Artists or teams must have skills and experience commensurate with successfully completing a public art installation. All applicants should consider long-term preservation and maintenance, with public art fabricated from highly durable, low-maintenance materials.
Applications must be submitted through CaFÉ (www.callforentry.org) by September 12, 2016, 11:59 p.m. MST. Submit six digital images of previously completed artworks, a current résumé (up to two pages required reading), a statement of interest (250 words or less), and responses to eligibility questions. There is no application fee. Semi-finalists will receive a $1,000 honorarium for design and presentation; those residing outside a 100-mile radius will be offered up to $300 travel reimbursement. Questions must be submitted by email to [email protected] by September 5, 2016, 5:00 p.m. MST.
