About This Call
The City of Commerce City and the Commerce City Cultural Council are seeking to purchase sculpture from Colorado artists, galleries, and hosts of sculpture-on-loan programs. Two new neighborhood parks—Turnberry Park (10725 Wheeling Street, 9.5 acres) and Villages at Buffalo Run East Park (11698 Chambers Road, 9 acres)—opened in fall 2016 and require public art installations.
Turnberry Park has a budget of $14,000 and seeks sculpture reflecting a theme inspired by the children's book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." Villages at Buffalo Run East Park has a budget of $11,000 and seeks artwork that aesthetically and conceptually connects to nature, wildlife, space, and the park's "Rocky Mountains" theme. The total art budget is $25,000. More than one sculpture may be purchased for each site. All budgets are inclusive of delivery, installation, and concrete footer specifications to be engineered by the City.
Eligible applicants must reside in Colorado, be represented by a Colorado gallery, or have artwork in a current art-on-loan exhibition in Colorado. Applicants must submit up to four digital images of available sculpture through the CaFÉ online system (www.callforentry.org), along with a current résumé and responses to application questions. There is no application fee. All artwork must be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for public display and weather exposure. The deadline for submissions is Monday, October 17, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MST. The selection process includes committee review, potential semi-finalist negotiations, Cultural Council review in November 2016, City Council review in December 2016, contract execution in January/February 2017, and installation in Spring 2017.
