About This Call

Comic Crossing: Art of the Graphic Narrative exhibit seeks to highlight the depth of the comic genre and today's comic and graphic narratives. The exhibition welcomes submissions that provide an expression of alternative perspectives and narrative; works that give viewers an opportunity to experience the "double literacy" of the visual and written word; examples of how written and drawn narratives can create complex stories and engagement with the past, present, and future; as well as submissions that show viewers the extent of graphic narrative as an artistic medium to the experiences of individuals and communities in response to established social, historic, and economic factors.

Submissions are open to SF Bay Area and California artists creating comic and graphic narrative art. All entries must be received in digital form by June 15, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Actual artwork must be delivered on Tuesday, July 11 between 10am and 12noon. Submissions are welcome on canvas, wood panel, metal, paper or similar substrate in any 2 or 3 dimensional medium suitable for and wired for hanging. All media are accepted: oil, acrylic, colored pencil, drawing, mixed media, photography, etc. Limited space is available for sculpture and objects. Entry fee is $25. Artworks must be able to be delivered or shipped.

The exhibition runs from July 13 to October 8, 2023 at the Uncle Credit Union Art Gallery Exhibition Program within the Bankhead Theater in Livermore. A mini Comic Con will be held during the Art Reception on Saturday, July 22 from 10am-4pm in the Bankhead lobby, sidewalk and courtyard, free to the public. This date may be subject to change.
