About This Call
Com-Part-Mental-Ize explores compartmentalization as a skill to create mental and emotional boundaries between actions and feelings, thoughts and decisions, personal views, and societal pressures. The exhibition invites artists to reflect on how mental and physical boundaries may be seen as sharing (compartir, Spanish) while separating—two opposing perspectives. Artists are encouraged to express the tension and balance between these concepts in their work, exploring how we arrange time, space, energy, pleasure, and pain. The show particularly invites women-identifying artists to reflect on the particular ways they navigate work as artists and as women.
The exhibition will be held at The Lakewood Cultural Center, located at 470 S. Allison Pkwy. in Lakewood, Colorado. The juror is Laine Godsey, Director of Arts and Education Programs at Lakewood Cultural Center, a conceptual artist with more than 15 years of experience in arts leadership and curatorial direction. The exhibition runs from May 30 to August 16, 2025, with an opening reception date to be announced. Artwork pickup is scheduled for August 18, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Artists may submit up to 3 artworks (1-3 images and/or 0-3 videos). An artist statement reflecting the exhibit theme is required (maximum 1000 words). Artwork dimensions must not exceed 8 feet height, 5 feet width, and 3 feet depth. The entry fee is $40. Two scholarships are available for emerging artists; requests must be submitted by December 1, 2024. Awards include Best of Show ($250) and three Honorable Mentions ($50). The submission deadline is March 2, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Artist notification is March 30, 2025. Shipped work must arrive by May 20, 2025; hand-delivered artwork can be dropped off May 22 (2-5 p.m.) or May 23 during business hours.
