Colored Pencil Society of America Explore This! 22

The Colored Pencil Society of America presents Explore This! 22, an annual online juried international exhibition celebrating artwork created by combining colored pencil with other media or alternative drawing supports.

Eligibility: Open to living artists worldwide age 18 or older. Work must be predominantly colored pencil and include another technique, surface, or element such as ink, watercolor, pastel, acrylics, collage, montage, artist-prepared surface, or three-dimensional surface. Work must be completed on or after January 1, 2023, and be the original concept, design, and execution of the submitting artist. Reference photos must be taken personally by the submitting artist, or if taken by others, must be incidental to and not the main focus of the artwork. Artwork created as a pastiche is allowed if sufficiently altered to make the parody obvious and the original is not copyrighted. Not allowed: work done with 100% colored pencil on a single 2D surface; work that has appeared in any previous CPSA Explore This! exhibition; collaborative work; work based on or copied from AI-generated images; work produced by applying colored pencil exactly over a printed or digital image; work constructed from actual colored pencils; or alteration of artwork after submission.

Entry Deadline: 11/15/2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Entry Fee: $20 for CPSA members (current as of entry date), $25 for non-members. Each artist may submit up to two works; the juror may choose only one work per artist. Submit 1-4 images. Acceptance list posted 1/15/2026. Show opens online and awards announced 2/1/2026. Awards include $2,000 cash award for Best of Show and EXPY Award, plus up to 15 smaller cash amounts and product awards. Failure to comply with specifications stated in the prospectus is cause for disqualification.
