About This Call
The Colored Pencil Society of America invites artists to submit original artwork created 100% in colored pencil to the 33rd Annual International Exhibition, to be displayed at the historic Mansion at Strathmore in Bethesda, MD from June 14 - August 4, 2025. The exhibition is open to all artists 18 years or older, regardless of geographic location. Entry fee is $25.00 ($20.00 for CPSA members). Artists may submit one or two works for consideration, with selection limited to no more than one work per artist.
Artwork must be 100% colored pencil on a 2-dimensional, manufactured surface not altered by the artist. Use of other media or artist-prepared surfaces disqualifies the entry. Artwork must be solely the original concept and design of the submitting artist, completed during or after 2022, and not previously displayed in any CPSA International Exhibition. The juror is Dr. Jack Rassmussen, Director and Curator of the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center, Washington, DC.
More than $20,000 in cash awards are available, including a $5,000 cash award and CIPPY trophy for the Best of Show winner. Accepted artists will be notified via email, with a list of selected artists posted on the CPSA website after May 1, 2025. Award winners will be notified by phone or email in early July. Artists are responsible for a cartage fee of $90 plus shipping and framing costs. By submitting an entry, artists commit to ship their artwork if selected, and it must remain in the gallery for the full exhibition duration. Any artist who fails to ship a selected entry may be barred from entering CPSA exhibitions for the next two years. A final in-person review of artwork is conducted to ensure compliance with execution, framing, and other requirements. Entry deadline is March 31, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
