About This Call
The Colorado Council on the Arts, Art in Public Places Program and the Colorado State Veterans Center seek to commission three-dimensional artwork to be located on the grounds outside the facility at the Domiciliary Renovation at Homelake, Colorado. The artwork should recognize the dedication of the heroes of our country and evoke the spirit of caring and the history and culture of the San Luis Valley. There are numerous opportunities for public art adjacent to the cottages, including along the new raised walkways that link the cottages and flanking Davis Drive, which leads from the main campus entrance to the cemetery and the gathering places. The artwork needs to have a presence and be durable and enduring.
A total art budget of $13,500 is available for all related expenses of this public art commission, including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, documentation, and other costs. This project is open to Colorado artists only who work on projects similar in size and scope to this commission. Artists with a current project with the State are not eligible to apply.
Up to three artists will be chosen as semi-finalists and will receive a small honorarium to develop the concept for the artwork to be approved by the committee. Semi-finalists will be notified by November 1, 2009, with interviews scheduled for January 2010 and installation in Spring 2010. Applicants must submit 6 digital images of previously completed work, a resume, and an artist statement of no more than 2,000 characters through the CaFÉ application system. There is no application fee.
