About This Call

Qualifications are requested from artists interested in creating a site-specific interior public artwork for the Translational Medicine Institute, part of Colorado State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. This opportunity is open to Colorado artists only.

The artwork will be installed on a large vertical wall in the Translational Medicine Institute's innovation space, approximately 24 feet high by 14 feet wide. The artwork must be two-dimensional or wall-mounted. The Selection Committee is open to artwork in a variety of media and artworks may protrude from the wall as long as the design is ADA compliant. The committee is interested in artworks that consider the spirit of innovation and the multi-faceted uses of the building. Total art budget is $39,000, which covers all costs including artist design fee, structural engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, building or site modifications, travel, per diem expenses, project documentation, and contingency. Semi-finalists will receive $1,000 as an honorarium for the creation of a design proposal.

All applicants must be legal residents of Colorado. Artists who are residents of Larimer County and/or alumni of Colorado State University are encouraged to apply. Applicants must submit 6-8 digital images of previously completed artworks, a current résumé, and a statement of interest of 500 words or less via the CaFÉ online application system. There is no application fee. The Selection Committee will consider artistic excellence, technical competence, conceptual compatibility, scale, material, form and content, resistance to wear and vandalism, and ease of maintenance. Deadline for submittal is September 10, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Semi-finalists will be notified in October 2018 and invited to prepare and present a final proposal in person. The building opens in January 2019, with artwork installation arranged in correlation with CSU's Academic Calendar. All works of art commissioned are owned by the State of Colorado via Colorado State University.
