About This Call

Colorado State University is seeking qualifications from artists and artist teams interested in creating a site-specific public artwork for the exterior of Shepardson Hall in Fort Collins, Colorado. The budget for this opportunity is $145,000, which covers all costs including artist design fee, structural engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and project documentation.

Shepardson Hall, originally constructed in 1938 as a WPA-funded building, is being renovated and expanded to nearly double its size. The new facility will house the Dean's Office and the Departments of Agricultural and Resource Economics, and Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. Both the north and south sides of the building are being considered as potential locations for the artwork. The north side will be more formal and public-facing, while the south side will be a less-formal entrance with gathering spaces. The Art Selection Committee seeks an artwork that serves as a visual symbol for the College of Agricultural Sciences, highlighting the diversity of agricultural programs and addressing agriculture's contemporary and future significance.

Applicants must submit 6-8 digital images of previously completed artworks, a current resume, and a statement of interest (250 words or less) via the CaFÉ online platform. All applicants must be legal residents of the United States with skills and experience commensurate with completing a major public art installation. Semi-finalists will be invited to present final proposals in person and will receive an honorarium of $1,000 for in-state artists or $1,500 for out-of-state artists. The deadline for submission is October 29, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. For more information, contact Ruth Bruno, Public Art Program Manager, at 303-892-3813 or [email protected].
