Colorado State University Pueblo Technology Building - Public Art Request for Qualifications

Qualifications are requested from artists interested in creating an interior public artwork for the Technology Building at Colorado State University Pueblo in Pueblo, Colorado. The budget for this opportunity is $104,000, and the deadline for submission is August 26, 2022.

The Technology Building renovation project aims to create a more open, light, comfortable, and innovative facility with flexible, collaborative spaces. The Selection Committee has targeted the building's redesigned central atrium space as the location for the artwork. This two-story space connects the first and second floors and serves as the building's entrance and student lounge area with an open, central stairwell. The artwork could be ceiling or wall-mounted and should address the building's themes of "inner workings" and "convergence." The Committee is interested in artwork that creates impact for this central space, including kinetic pieces or work that embraces the programmatic approach through materials or themes.

The Selection Committee will consider artistic excellence, scale, material, form, content, safety of materials, appropriate relationship to site function, resistance to wear and vandalism, and ease of maintenance. All applicants must be legal residents of the United States with skills and experience commensurate with completing a major public art installation. Artists from Colorado and the greater Southwest region are encouraged to apply. Applicants must submit 6-8 digital images of previously completed artworks, a current résumé, and a statement of interest of 250 words or less via the CaFÉ online platform. There is no application fee. A short list of semifinalists will be invited to present final proposals in person and will be paid an honorarium of $1,000 for in-state semifinalists and $1,500 for out-of-state semifinalists. The selection committee will meet in September/October 2022, with artist presentations scheduled for November 2022. Building completion is scheduled for the end of 2023.
