About This Call

Colorado State University-Pueblo is seeking qualifications from artists and artist teams interested in creating site-specific public artwork for the new Center for Integrated Health & Humanities. The project budget is $104,000, with a submission deadline of January 6, 2020.

The Art Selection Committee is looking to commission artwork for the interior of the Center, with focus on activating the lobby area on the main floor and continuing through the building up the main stairwell to the second floor lobby space. Artwork can be ceiling or wall-mounted; free-standing sculptural work is not possible. A long wall near the north side window on the 2nd floor near a coffee and meeting area is also a possible location for artwork. The Committee would like the artwork to reflect the University's 2028 vision of CSU-Pueblo as the "Gateway to the Southwest" and "the People's University," acknowledge the school's role as a Hispanic Serving Institution, and connect to the building's design focus on circular or meandering pathways to learning, as well as themes of erosion/flow and the labyrinth. Artists from the Southwest region are encouraged to apply.

The contract amount of $104,000 is inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, travel, per diem, project documentation, and contingency. Out-of-state semi-finalist artists will receive $1,500 and in-state semi-finalists will receive $1,000 as an honorarium for design proposal creation. All applicants must be legal residents of the United States. Artists must have skills and experience commensurate with successfully completing a major public art installation. Work sample requirements: 6-8 images. All commissioned works are owned by the State of Colorado via Colorado State University-Pueblo.
