About This Call
The Colorado Council on the Arts, Art in Public Places Program and Colorado State University-Pueblo seek to commission an artist or artist team for a site-specific public art project for the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building (HPER) Renovation and the new Student Recreation Building. The HPER Building, originally built in 1971 with subsequent expansions in 1989 and 1996, is undergoing renovation and will increase to over 112,000 square feet. The new Student Recreation Center, approximately 40,000 square feet on two levels, will be located adjacent and attached to the southern portion of the HPER Building, with construction beginning in July 2007 and completed in spring 2008.
While the buildings are physically connected, the committee would like the art to connect the two buildings visually. Specific locations where this might be achieved are the two-story main lobbies/atriums located in both buildings and the main entrance interior and exteriors. Themes that might be addressed include health, physical fitness, body and spirit, and the community of Pueblo. The artwork should be of generally equal impact at each facility. This call is open to Colorado artists only.
Approximately $160,000 is available for all related expenses of this public art commission including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, documentation, and other costs. The deadline for submittal is July 12, 2007. Applicants must submit 6 images as work samples.
