About This Call
Colorado State University is seeking qualifications from artists and artist teams interested in creating a site-specific exterior public artwork or series of artworks for the new Health Education Outreach Center, located along the Science Quad on the university's main campus in Fort Collins.
The Health Education Outreach Center is a four-story, approximately 39,600 square foot facility that will connect to existing buildings and join the Chemistry and Biology buildings on the new Science Quad. The building will house student study areas, anatomy and neurology labs, office space, and a first-floor outreach center for K-12 students and visitors. The Art Selection Committee is seeking artwork that operates on campus scale and activates the building's exterior. Two primary sites are available: the south side entrance (which could benefit from wayfinding and sense of arrival) and the east side along the Science Quad (which could create relationships with other science buildings). The committee is open to either a single large-scale artwork or multiple artworks in a series utilizing both sites.
The total art budget is $130,000, covering all costs including design fees, structural engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and contingencies. Selected semi-finalists will receive honorariums of $1,000 (in-state) or $1,500 (out-of-state) for design proposals. The Selection Committee will evaluate artistic excellence, technical competence, conceptual compatibility, scale, material, form, content, site relationship, resistance to wear and vandalism, and maintenance requirements including ability to withstand Colorado's climate extremes. Applicants must submit 6-8 digital images of previously completed artworks, a current resume, and a statement of interest (500 words or less) via the CaFÉ online platform. All applicants must be legal U.S. residents with skills and experience commensurate with major public art installation. The deadline for submission is September 10, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Semi-finalists will be notified in October 2018 and invited to present final proposals in person. Artwork installation is scheduled for Spring/Summer 2019. For more information, contact Ruth Bruno, Public Art Program Manager, at 303-892-3813 or [email protected].
