About This Call
The Colorado Council on the Arts, Art in Public Places Program and the School of Arts at Colorado State University seek to directly purchase a piece of art for placement outside the new University Center for the Arts (UCA). The UCA houses a concert hall, two theatres, rehearsal and dressing room space, and a music hall. Upon completion, the complex will also house faculty offices, classrooms, music practice and dance studios, and several large galleries.
The new University Center for the Arts is located in the renovated Fort Collins High School, built in 1924, and is connected to the University through an underpass. The grounds include the Annual Trial Gardens, a 2.9 acre park with approximately 1,000 varieties of annual bedding plants. The committee would like the art to reflect the community feel of this area and enhance the sculpture-garden feel of the grounds. The grounds are serene in nature, and the committee would like the art to create an intimate experience with the space. The committee will accept both images for direct purchase as well as images of design concepts.
$10,200 is available for all related expenses of this Public Art commission including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, documentation, and other costs. The Colorado State University Facilities Department will assist with the foundation, pedestal, and installation of the piece. Upon installation, all purchased or commissioned works of art become the property of the State and form the state art collection, developed and administered by the Colorado Council on the Arts. Colorado Artists Only are eligible to apply. Six images are required for submission.
