About This Call
Colorado State University is seeking public artwork(s) for the revitalization of the Andrew G. Clark Building, a 255,000 square-foot academic building constructed in 1968 that houses nine departments within the College of Liberal Arts and the Department of Psychology. The building is the most heavily used academic building on the Fort Collins main campus, serving 70% of undergraduate students in any given year. The revitalization project will renovate Clark's A Wing and rebuild the B Wing, addressing aging infrastructure and creating spaces that foster interdisciplinary collaborations and community.
The committee is looking for artwork or artworks that connect the interior and exterior of the Clark Building by activating locations on both exterior sides (east and west) and within the building in either A or B Wing. Outdoor locations and interior locations within the central hub area of Wing B would be the focus, with opportunity for small artworks throughout A or B Wings. The committee is interested in artworks that address the College of Liberal Arts' five primary ideas: How do we make and manage change? How do we make meaning of our lives and our world? How do we organize ourselves and get along with each other? How does the past inform our present and shape our future? How do we work toward a thriving planet? Media of all types will be considered in a variety of styles. Due to maintenance considerations, artwork incorporating lighting, water, or interactive technology is not of interest. All wall-mounted artwork must meet ADA requirements.
Budget: Up to $280,000. All costs associated with commissioned public artworks, including artist fee, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and project documentation are covered by the budget. Semifinalists will be invited to prepare and present a final proposal in person and will be paid an honorarium between $1,000-$1,500. Applicants must submit 6-8 digital images of previously completed artworks, a current résumé, and a statement of interest of 250 words or less via the CaFÉ system. All applicants must be residents of the United States. Artists who are residents of Colorado and/or alumni of Colorado State University are encouraged to apply. Selection committee will meet in June 2025 to select semifinalists, with artist presentations in July 2025.
