Colorado, See The New West Like A Local

Denver International Airport invites Colorado artists, galleries, museums, cultural centers, and Colorado destinations to participate in a juried exhibition highlighting the state. The exhibition, titled "Colorado, See the New West Like a Local," will be on display from April 2008 to January 2009 and will express the essence of Colorado as interpreted by residents. The exhibition will consist of poems and short written statements about Colorado illustrated through visual, tactile, sound, and multimedia original artworks produced by Colorado artists.

Participants should select their favorite statement or statements from a provided list of 137 written statements and submit original artwork that best illustrates the chosen statement(s). Each applicant can select up to two statements and submit up to two artwork entries. The call is open to representational or abstract interpretations, and both new works inspired by statements and historical artifacts or previously created artworks that relate to a statement will be accepted. Applicants must be current Colorado residents and agree to the DIA Exhibition Policy and Entry Terms.

Artwork dimensions cannot exceed 60 inches (height) by 46 inches (width) by 20 inches (depth) for glass display cases, or 62 inches (height) by 40 inches (width) by 4 inches (depth) for wall panels, with a maximum weight of 50 pounds. All entries must be suitably presented for installation and wired for hanging. Works on paper and photography must be framed with a white or off-white mat. Selected applicants will be notified by February 25, 2008. All artwork accepted into the exhibition will be insured while in the airport's possession. Artists may sell their own work during the exhibit but are responsible for collecting sales tax and shipping costs. There is no application fee.
