About This Call
The Colorado Council on the Arts, Art in Public Places Program and the Colorado School of Mines seek to commission an artist or artist team for a site-specific public art project in the Center for Technology and Learning Media (CTLM II), a 24,000 sq. ft. addition to the main laboratory building. The committee will entertain ideas that can be placed in the exterior green space outside of the building or the indoor corridor that connects the addition to the original building. Themes may include international connections, technology, diversity, and sustainability. There is approximately $56,000 available for all related expenses of this public art commission including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, documentation, and other costs.
The Art Selection Committee will review all complete submittals and select a short list of semi-finalists who will be invited to interview and submit an in-depth proposal for a small honorarium. The honorarium will be applied toward the commission amount for the artist(s) awarded the commission. Final selection will be made from the semi-finalists. Semi-finalists will be notified on August 3, 2007, with presentations to the committee scheduled for September 17, 2007.
The program is open to all artists regardless of race, color, creed, gender, gender variance, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion or affiliation, or mental or physical handicap, although certain projects may be limited or give preference to those residing in Colorado. Artists with a current grant with the State are not eligible to apply. Applicants must submit six digital images, a resume, and an artist statement of no more than 2,000 characters.
