Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo

The Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo (CMHIP) is seeking artists for public art commissions for the new High Security Forensic Institute (HSFI), a nearly 200,000 square-foot facility that will replace existing Medium and Maximum Security Forensic program buildings. The new building will house 200 beds divided into 16 and 24 bed patient care units, along with treatment and therapy areas, pharmacy, clinic spaces, program spaces, vocational and academic education, food services, recreational facilities, a visitation center, and administrative offices.

The total art budget is $418,000. Budget amounts for individual commissions will be recommended by the Art Selection Committee and approved by the Colorado Council on the Arts. Contract amounts are inclusive of all costs including design fees, consultation fees, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, travel, per diem, project documentation, contingency, and any other associated costs. Artists must submit 6 images. Artwork should be colorful yet soothing, lively with playful materials, and create a nurturing environment. Artwork reminiscent of Colorado and Pueblo is highly encouraged. Themes for all projects should relate to the natural landscape of Colorado: animal, natural wildlife, native flora and fauna. Artists must consider the security of the artwork and whether it could potentially be dangerous to staff and patients. The Institute encourages artists of all media to apply.
