About This Call
The Colorado Judicial Department seeks to commission public art for the new Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center in Denver's Civic Center District. The project will allocate $1.6 million for public art. Artists or teams may propose artwork for no more than two of the available opportunities.
The Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center will occupy a full city block adjacent to the State Capitol and consist of a four-story courthouse and a twelve-story office building connected by a three-story link. Opportunities for public art are available in both exterior and interior spaces, including the exterior courts plaza, courtyard, court building entry, atrium, monumental stair, law library, courtrooms, public corridor, and office building lobby. Artwork in many mediums will be explored, including sculpture, paving, 2-dimensional wall art, flooring, railings, fencing, lighting, suspended sculpture, painting, bas relief, and millwork.
All applicants must be legal residents of the United States and have skills and experience commensurate with completing a major public art installation. The program is open to all artists regardless of race, color, creed, gender, gender variance, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion or affiliation, or mental or physical handicap, although certain projects may be limited or give preference to Colorado residents. Semi-finalists will be paid an honorarium to prepare and present a final proposal in person. Applicants must submit six digital images of previously completed artworks, a resume, a statement of interest (250 words or less), and responses to specified questions via the CaFÉ system. There is no application fee. The deadline for submission is January 20, 2011 at midnight MST.
