About This Call
The Colorado Historical Society seeks qualifications from an artist or artist team to design and manage the installation of a terrazzo floor for the History Colorado Center in Denver, Colorado. The project budget is $575,000 and includes all related expenses for the public art commission, including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, documentation, and other costs.
The terrazzo floor will be installed on the ground floor level, including the Great Hall of the new museum. The main focus in the Great Hall will be a Colorado map approximately 40' X 60' that might delineate elevation, major cities, roads and rivers. The interpretative perspective, including the floor, will evoke the "Spirit of Colorado." The artist or artist team must have the skills and experience commensurate with the responsibility of successfully completing a major terrazzo floor installation. The artist or team will be responsible for the design of the floor and for managing the installation, which will be done by a subcontractor to the general contractor.
The History Colorado Center is a 200,000 square foot facility in the downtown cultural district that will include a public museum and exhibition spaces, education areas, collections management facilities, administrative offices, the Stephen H. Hart Library, and State Archaeology and Historic Preservation offices. All applicants must be legal residents of the United States. Six images are required for submission. The deadline for submittal is June 7, 2010, at midnight MDT.
