About This Call
Colorado Creative Industries seeks to acquire existing public artworks for the Colorado Department of Human Services' Veterans Community Living Center at Homelake in Monte Vista, Colorado. The total funding available for artwork is $33,500, with individual artworks considered up to $5,000. This opportunity is open to Colorado artists only. Funding is provided by the state of Colorado's Art in Public Places Program.
The Veterans Community Living Center at Homelake is situated on a 25-acre site one mile east of Monte Vista in the San Luis Valley. The facility serves veterans, veterans' spouses, and Gold Star Parents. The center seeks multiple artworks for display in the Nursing Home building that speak to the site's unique history and function. Artworks should relate to the San Luis Valley region or military service and contribute to a comforting and restful environment. Due to building design, 2D works are the main type considered. Sculptural works may be accepted if wall-mounted and do not protrude more than 4 inches. The committee will consider artworks of all media including paintings, photography, mixed media, and fabric, with preference for works 24"x36" or larger.
The Art Selection Committee will evaluate submissions based on artist location (must be Colorado-based), thematic relevance, artistic excellence, technical competence, scale, material, form and content, and ease of maintenance. Artists residing in the San Luis Valley and/or artists who are veterans are encouraged to apply. Selected artworks must be delivered to the Veterans Community Living Center at Homelake and must be ready to hang and framed if applicable, with frames in good condition. Applications must include 1-3 digital images per artwork (up to 3 artworks total, maximum 9 images), a current résumé, and a statement of interest of 500 words or less addressing how submitted artworks relate to the thematic specifications. There is no application fee. The deadline for applications is November 8, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Selection panel will meet December/January 2017/2018, with notification of purchases in January/February 2018.
