About This Call
Colorado Creative Industries seeks to acquire public art through direct purchase of existing artwork for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation's new crime lab in Arvada, Colorado. The total art budget is $45,778, with individual artworks up to $15,000 considered for purchase. This opportunity is open to Colorado artists only. Funding is provided by the state of Colorado's Art in Public Places Program.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is looking to acquire multiple artworks for display in the building. The Public Art Selection Committee would like artworks that address the building's purpose as a laboratory and thematically relate to one of the forensic science disciplines or science in general. Due to the building's design and limited floor space, 2D works are the main type of artwork that will be considered. Works may be sculptural in nature, as long as they are wall-mounted and do not protrude more than 4 inches. The Selection Committee will consider artworks of all media, including paintings, photography, mixed media, and fabric. Artworks should not exceed 5 feet in height and no more than 6 feet in length. There is also an opportunity for a ceiling-mounted artwork for the building's reception/entrance area, such as a mobile or sculptural ceiling piece, to be installed in a 6-foot diameter circular recession. The adjacent ceiling is 9 feet 4 inches high and the recessed portion is 10 feet 10 inches high. Any ceiling artwork price should include all relevant installation costs.
Applicants must be residents of Colorado. Applications are accepted through the CaFÉ system only. Applicants must submit digital images of available artworks (1-3 images of up to 3 artworks), a current résumé, and a statement of interest of 250 words or less. There is no application fee. The Art Selection Committee will review submissions and selections will be made in March 2016, with notification of purchases in March/April 2016. For questions, contact Ruth Bruno, Public Art Program Manager, at 303-844-3813 or [email protected].
